Dear Puppy Families,

Today is a bittersweet day for me. I have raised these babies for the last few weeks with all my love, sweat, and tears. It has been a rollercoaster ride filled with no sleep, messy times, late nights, vet trips, and many other things. I have gotten to know each of these puppies, and it is hard to say goodbye.

I want to tell you that the first 3 weeks is an adjustment period for your new family member. It can be rough, and your puppy may be sad and scared, or they may be amazing with zero issues. Sleep time/crate time will involve crying if crating which we recommend or a playpen. Playpens are also amazing! We use them for our puppies vs crates so they have room to use their potty tray, play when we cannot be home, and sleep roomly with each other.

If you see your pup panting, it can be a sign of stress, so please be mindful of visitors outside of the household for at least the first week. Your pup needs time to adjust to their new surroundings, and too much excitement and attention can put them into stress mode, which can replicate parasites.

It is important to understand that your puppy has been dewormed for common parasites such as Round worms, Hook worms, Tape worms, Whipworms, Giardia, and Coccidia. However, they will need to continue with a schedule of treatment every 10-14 days for 2-3 treatments. I recommend deworming them the first week they go home in case they are stressed and 2-3 additional treatments after with your vet. Then, every 3 months for their life. I want to remind you that parasites are common and not something that you should be fearful or panicked about. It may happen that a puppy shows up with parasites even if they have had no symptoms and have shown no sign of them in a stool sample which has happened a few times for me. A few medicines and treatments, and they are parasite-free. Sometimes dogs and cats will have no obvious outward signs that they are carrying parasites. Adult worms are not always seen in the feces and eggs are not usually depending on the parasite. Sometimes the parasite eggs will lie dormant in the intestinal tract until they become activated under times of stress. No fault of breeder, mama dog, or puppy.

Please do not take your puppy out and about to stores, dog parks, parks, or on walks where you do not know if unvaccinated dogs have been until they complete their puppy shots. Parvo and other viruses are out there lurking and commonly like to infect puppies and immune compromised dogs. Stick to your own yard/house for the first few weeks home. You may carry your puppy out and about in your arms or a dog stroller but walking is a big no no I always warn new owners of. Dog strollers can be a good way to protect your puppy until their series are completed. In the vets office please also make sure you hold them, your puppy and vet will thank you of being cautious and on top of preventing the spread of viruses.

Thank you for entrusting me with your new family members the last few weeks of their life. I have taken care of them with all my heart and know that you will too. Any questions please reach out day or night any time. Send updates anytime as well! I love seeing my babies grow up. I hope you will have many happy years ahead with your new furry friend.

Warm Wishes,

Seaborn Retrievers.
